Tips On Designing A Teeny Tiny Home

If you want to save money, you may want to consider building a tiny home. These homes work well if you are single or married without any children. They are much less expensive to build, and the utilities are less expensive because the home is so small. If you are interested in doing this, below are some design tips that you should find helpful.

Create Openness

Because the house is tiny, you do not have a lot of space. You do not want everything to look cramped, however, and there are ways you can create some open spaces. For example, instead of separating your sleeping area and living area make it one large space. You could use it by day for the living and at night for sleeping. You could also use a hideaway bed to put away during the day.

You need to watch out for clutter, especially if it is above your waist. Anything above your waist will project into your living space and make your home feel much smaller. Using base cabinets are good, but do not use upper wall cabinets or upper shelving.

Use high ceilings in the home and place your windows high so they can cast light down into your home. You could also install skylights.

Using lighter colors on the walls and ceiling is also a good idea, as dark colors will make your home feel much smaller and darker.

Create Storage

You will need to have creative storage solutions in a tiny house.  One space you can use is the space under your floorboards. This is the perfect place to put things that you do not use often. They are still easy to get to when you need them.

Purchase bins that roll under a bed to store your pillows, blankets, extra sheets, or anything else you have.  If you have a staircase in your tiny home, use the space underneath it. You can install drawers behind the risers to store things.

Install a pegboard on one of the walls, along with some hanging hooks. You can store small things from them, such as hats, scarves, or jewelry. You can also purchase heavier hanging hooks to hang your pots and pans from the pegboard. This not only saves space, but also gives you easy access to them.

Following these tips will allow you to be as comfortable in your tiny house as you were in your larger one.  For even more ideas, contact a design firm like South Florida Design, INC
